Investigation finds ex-Orrville police officer had inappropriate relationships

Ryan Pitchure, who had been on paid administrative leave since August prior to his October resignation, was found to be having an inappropriate, non-sexual relationship with the minor that included texting and deception. Chief of Police Matt Birkbeck said the investigation found no evidence of criminal behavior, but constituted serious violations of the department’s core values and standards. During the course of the investigation, it also was determined Pitchure maintained a romantic, sexual relationship with an adult woman he met on service call as a police officer. The officer resigned prior to giving a statement or answering questions as part of an administrative interview or before subsequent discipline could be imposed. “I now look forward to the opportunity to fill this vacancy with an individual that possesses the requisite work ethic and strength of character that our community deserves and expects from our officers.”
